How Welsh MPs voted in crucial vote to try and stop no-deal Brexit

A "last opportunity" to block a no-deal Brexit has taken a step closer tonight.

MPs voted 328 to 301 in favour of a cross-party motion to block a no-deal Brexit, including 21 Conservative party rebels.

Those included former chancellor Philip Hammond, former justice minister David Gauke and Ken Clarke - the longest serving male MP in the Commons.

All voting Welsh Labour MPs backed it, as did Plaid Cymru's four MPs. Guto Bebb, Conservative MP for Aberconwy, rebelled.

Sir Oliver Letwin said the motion was designed to allow time for MPs to further debate the bill in full on Wednesday.

He told the Commons it would be hard for the government to get a deal by January 31 – the deadline for an extension – but there was no chance of the government getting a deal by October 31.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said: "There is no more time – this may be our last opportunity."

After the result was announced, Boris Johnson said his Government would now table its own motion for Wednesday calling for a snap election in October . But that would require two-thirds of MPs to back it. It does not yet appear that number of MPs would support an election.

Welsh MPs Stephen Doughty (Labour) and Jonathan Edwards (Plaid Cymru) both put their names to the motion.
