How Wayne Rooney wants to emulate Chelsea boss Frank Lampard on his return to England

Former England striker Wayne Rooney has said that he would like to get into management after he retires from playing football, and he is using Chelsea legends and former ex-Three Lions teammates Frank Lampard and John Terry as inspiration.

Rooney has returned to England after a spell in America, joining up with Lampard's former club Derby County.

The former Everton and Manchester United striker will not be able to make his Rams' debut until January 2nd, but is already thinking about what he would like to do after he has hung up his playing boots.

“Ideally I want to get into management and be successful. When I was at Manchester United I used to go in a lot with Ryan Giggs and sit there and analyse opposition.  I have a knowledge of the game and hopefully I can do well,” he said, as reported by the Telegraph .

And England's leading goalscorer has some former teammates to look up to.

“It’s brilliant to see what Frank [Lampard] and Stevie [Gerrard] have done," he added "There has been a lack of young former England players going in to management over the last 15 years.

“With television, they can do that and earn good money, but with Steven, Frank, John Terry and Scott Parker all getting involved it’s great to see. It’s something I have always wanted to do when I stopped playing.”
