I heard it has been snowing in some parts. Round here (southwest England) it was a rather mild, grey weekend like any other. Nothing much to write home about, or to write a report about.
But Kate is away (somewhere sunny and exotic) and has left me in charge, so you’re going to have to make do with my 7-mile easy run on Sunday. And nothing at all to report from Saturday.
I’m still trying to get back to some kind of form after the sideways punch to the body that was the Oman Desert Marathon last November. A brutal 165km all on sand. It left me weary and battered, and with a sore hip flexor. And then it was Christmas. And then ... and then the excuses start to run dry.
I’m sure I’m not the only one struggling to find a lost running mojo. While others, it seems, never slow down. A special shoutout while I’ve got the controls to my Torbay AC teammate Simon Longthorpe for a brilliant 32:23 for 2nd in the Exeter First Chance 10K on Sunday - behind the undisputed fastest man in Devon, Tom Merson.
What did everyone else get up to this weekend? If you’ve been out running in the snow, maybe share some photos as well as your stories. To get things started, the picture above is of Tom Payn (2:17 marathon runner no less) beginning his buildup to this year’s London marathon with a brisk runout around a snowy Hampstead Heath in London.
• If the cold gets too much, Adharanand is taking a group of runners to train in Iten in Kenya this June. For details on how to sign up to join him on the trip: traininkenya.com
