How Vikings’ usage of signing bonuses compares to other teams

Over the years, the Vikings have found plenty of creative ways to maneuver the salary cap. Minnesota has altered players’ cap hits by turning money into signing bonuses, a common practice around the NFL to free up space.

Over the Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald looked at how much teams used the signing bonuses from 2022-2026. During that stretch, the Vikings have 24.9% of their money on the books in the form of signing bonuses.

The league average is 25% for signing bonus money from 2022-2026. Minnesota is No. 16 in the league when it comes to the percentage of its salary that is in signing bonuses.

The Packers and Bears have larger percentages of signing bonus money than the Vikings. The Lions have the least in the NFC North with 24.2%.
