How 'up and coming' Sneinton has come back to life after lockdown ended

Residents and business owners have opened up on how an 'up and coming area' of Nottingham has been revitalised after coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

The vibrant Sneinton Market showcases a range of small and independent shops where business is now booming.

Among those firms is the Blend coffee shop where barista Miles Cliff, 22, has spoken about how it feels Sneinton is beginning to change for the better.

"I really enjoy working here as it is a great community vibe," he said.

“I think Sneinton is definitely massively up and coming.

“We are getting more people coming and business is good.”

Blend has become a firm fixture of the market, having been established for five years, and also a popular favourite with shoppers is the pop-up vegan market, which opens every Sunday.

Among the visitors there are regulars Barry and Nicki Hall, 55 and 51 respectively.

The couple echoed the recent sentiments of Piers Wheatcroft Baker, who has taken on The Bath Inn and told Nottinghamshire Live he felt the area could become 'the Covent Garden of Nottingham'.

Nicki said: "You can get things you wouldn’t get anywhere else.

“You can just sit and just watch the world go by.”

Barry added: “We come here quite often for coffee.

“I like that there are more businesses and more stuff happening on the weekends.”

Meanwhile, Sam Nicklin, 25, Head of Visuals for the Art of Football, thinks that Sneinton is now becoming a more approachable place for residents and shoppers.

Sam said: “I’ve lived in Nottingham my whole life and Sneinton didn’t have a huge amount going on.

“Now it’s been busier as people want to shop more locally and independently.

“Sneinton could be like Covent Garden, but it’s not there yet.”

The Art of Football creates artwork, t-shirts and prints that capture the essence of football. The company has been a part of Sneinton Market for seven years.

Sam added: “The area is building up more and more. Hockley is the same. We have a good time here.”

The pop-up stalls and markets are open Saturdays 10-2pm.
