Snow hit parts of the North East yesterday, leaving many shocked to see the white stuff in May.
Just some weeks ago, we were basking in sunshine. But temperatures plunged and areas in Gateshead, County Durham and Sunderland saw snow, hail and sleet on Wednesday afternoon.
But how unusual is snow at this time of year and are we going to see some more of this wintry weather?
The Met Office says this type of weather is unusual indeed. The North East region last recorded snowfall in May in 2012 and 1997.
Nicola Maxey, a spokesperson for the Met Office, said: "Snow in May is quite unusual but it's not unheard of.
"The last time snow was recorded in the region was on May 5, 2012 - one day of snow was recorded.
"Before that, we have to go back to 1997, when snow was recorded on May 5 and 6. So this does not happen very often.
"At the moment, we have some quite cold air coming from the north, which is turning rain to snow and sleet. And the snow we are seeing is mainly over higher grounds."
There is still a chance of some snow falling in the coming days, on high grounds, but the weather is set to change and become rainy.

"We are seeing a change of weather type from this weekend," said Ms Maxey.
"There is a low pressure system moving up from the south west, pushing rain up north.
"There will be much more cloudy, wet and windy weather. There is still a risk of snow on higher grounds, mainly in Scotland. But temperatures will return back to average for this time of the year."
