News of Jurgen Klopp extending his Anfield stay is the announcement all Liverpool fans were hoping to hear.
Answers provided by the German on his future in recent months appeared to indicate he was ready to call time on his career at the club in 2024, when his contract was due to expire, but the 54-year-old has now taken the decision to prolong his Reds tenure by a further two years to 2026.
Explaining what made him choose to remain on Merseyside past his expected departure date, Klopp explained his wife, Ulla, played an influential role. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com of how this point was reached, he said: "If, when I said around the last contract extension, that in 2024 that's it then, it was actually a private agreement and the most important contract in my life I signed is the one with Ulla. That's where it started again.

"We sat in the kitchen at the table and Ulla said, 'I can't see us leaving in 2024.' And I was like, 'What?!' 'No, really, [with] all the people about.' You won't know Lisa, but she is very important for us, it's about Danielle, it's about so many people. That's the first moment and then, of course, it's about the club and all the people I don't know personally but I know as well, so that's how it all started."
And this is not the first time Liverpool have had Klopp's partner to thank. Targeted to become Sir Alex Ferguson's replacement at Manchester United in 2013, the Reds' boss is understood to have turned down this opportunity after advice from Ulla regarding the vacant position.
That's according to Reds legend Phil Thompson, who previously told Norwegian channel TV 2 : “I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other. He looked at me and asked 'why?'.
"Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn't right. When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he's created for Liverpool."
Since making the move to Merseyside in 2015, it seems Ulla has fully embraced the city and becoming a fan of the club. She has previously been spotted stood on top of a rubbish bin during Liverpool's parade following the 2019 Champions League win in Madrid and now appears to be keen on following the side away from home, having attended away fixtures at Manchester United and Manchester City this season.
