Nero, a one-year-old stray dog, was left with only two functioning limbs after he was struck by a car in Romania.
The mixed breed was found by a passerby on the side of the road.
His injuries were so severe he lost half of his front left leg and part of his back paw on the same side.
But thanks to a Carlisle-based charity, Nero will get a new lease of life as a result of a £1,100 prosthetic leg.
Miracle’s Mission has helped more than 6,000 animals and 100 disabled dogs since 2015.
It hopes to help thousands more disabled dogs by opening Britain’s first centre dedicated to their rehabilitation.
But in order to be able to continue its work offering prosthetics and wheelchairs, it needs to find a permanent base.
Victoria Bryceson was inspired to set up the centre, dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured and disabled animals from around the world, after adopting her own street dog called Ella while working in Egypt in 2018.
Ella had been thrown from a building, breaking a leg, spinal cord and this later led to the loss of another leg.
Victoria said: “She had such a horrific life, but despite that she was so happy and determined to keep going.
“I got her a set of wheels and she had a new lease of life. I saw her playing with the other dogs and in her mind she was just a normal dog.”
Miracle’s Mission rehabilitates those injured and disabled, neuters strays, and also re-homes dogs.
Paul Christian, patron of the centre, said: “All animals deserve a second chance, even disabled ones.”
