Tottenham secured a late addition to their squad on deadline day with the arrival of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.
The Brazilian became Spurs' fifth addition to the squad of the summer, penning a five-year deal in north London in a move reported to be in the region of £25.8million.
It makes the right-back Tottenham’s most expensive arrival of the summer, with Fabio Paratici having also invested in the likes of Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr, whilst Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini have arrived on loan deals.
Whilst the window in all looks like a shrewd one, Tottenham have certainly invested heavily in an attempt to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo's squad. It could even end up being the most expensive transfer window in the club’s history.
When taking into account the respective fees that Spurs have spent this summer, they have total outgoings worth in the region of £62million - which would not be considered all that much.
However, should Spurs elect to make their moves for the likes of Romero and Gollini permanent ones - as is expected, that would take the club’s total summer spending to £116.9million.
According to transfermarkt, that would be the highest amount that Spurs have spent in one window in their entire history - only the summer of 2019/20 would come close, where a reported £106million was spent on record signing Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and the loan of Giovani Lo Celso.
Nevertheless, Spurs have been helped considerably this summer with a number of sales that has allowed them to spend such lofty amounts.
Centre-backs Juan Foyth and Toby Alderweireld have departed for Villarreal and Al Duhail respectively, whilst Paratici also recouped modest fees for Moussa Sissoko and Joe Hart.
In all, Spurs managed to earn just under £30million from sales throughout the summer, meaning that they have had to invest a potential further £87.6million on five players during Nuno Espirito Santo’s first summer in charge.
