How Tottenham are preparing for Manchester United fixture

Tottenham Hotspur are set to take part in two practice matches in two days as they look to build fitness ahead of their Premier League return next week.

Jose Mourinho's side will return to competitive action next Friday when they host Manchester United in their first match in over three months.

The former United manager goes into the match knowing nothing less than a win will do as his side look to keep their slim hopes of Champions League qualification alive heading into the final nine matches of the season.

Tottenham go into the match eighth in the Premier League and without a win in six games after they crashed out of both the FA Cup and Champions League in March.

In order to build fitness for the huge encounter Mourinho has organised two behind-closed-doors friendly games with Spurs set to face fellow Premier League side Norwich on Friday and then Championship outfit Reading on Saturday.

Mourinho has organised two matches in 24 hours in order to build vital fitness ahead of next week's return to action, while also allowing him the opportunity to utilise his full squad before the season run-in.

Tottenham have already been dealt a big blow ahead of their match with United after midfielder Dele Alli was handed a one-match suspension in relation to a social media post.

The 24-year-old was charged in February over a joke made on social media regarding the coronavirus pandemic, and has now been punished by the Football Association with a one-match ban as well as a £50,000 fine.
