How to watch WWE Royal Rumble 2022 on UK TV

Well no-one can accuse WWE of going into 2022 quietly.

With plans for their Day One pay-per-view turned upside down when Roman Reigns tested positive for covid just hours before he was due to wrestle, fans were treated to one of the most memorable events of recent times.

And with it coming just three weeks before Royal Rumble 2022, there's lots of feuds and storylines that look likely to be heading into the much-loved big-four event.

The Royal Rumble 2022 will take place on Saturday, January 29 from The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Handily for UK-based WWE fans who want to watch it live, it's the latest premium live event to be given a Saturday rather than Sunday slot - so no need to try and get up for work or school on a Monday morning after staying up into the early hours to see it without risk of spoilers.

Because of the time difference the show will start at 1am for UK fans - so technically Sunday morning - with the hour-long pre-show starting at midnight, shown on the WWE Network. Pre-shows often air for free on YouTube, although it's not clear yet whether that will be the case for this year's Rumble.

What is the card for WWE's Royal Rumble 2022?

There's not much detail yet on the potential card for the show, but you don't need to be a fortune teller to predict that the ramifications of some of the big surprises of Day One are likely to be felt.

Specifically, new champion Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley look finally set on a singles programme, with Paul Heyman and MVP in their respective corners.

Having two of the WWE's biggest finally go head-to-head should be a brutal main event, if Lashley spearing Lesnar through the barrier at their first contact is anything to go by.

Whether or not you think it's right that Lesnar now has the title - bearing in mind if Reigns hadn't been taken out of their match Brock wouldn't have even been in contention of taking it off Big E as part of the fatal five-way - this feud with Lashley has been a long-time coming.

Any disappointment felt at the fact that Reigns' feud with Lesnar has reached a premature end is eased significantly with the news that the Head of the Table is fully recovered and, if the most recent Smackdown is anything to go by, is set to go head to head with his former Shield colleague Seth Rollins.

Elsewhere on the card, Edge and Miz look set for a rematch, this time with their respective wives in their corners as part of a mixed tag.

The build up of this feud, and re-emergence of Brood-era Edge, has already been huge amounts of fun, so adding Maryse and the legendary Beth Phoenix to the mix should take it to the next level - and that's even before the pun-tastic joy of it being billed as 'The IT couple versus the Grit Couple'. Well played WWE, well played.

Meanwhile, it wouldn't be a Rumble without the traditional Royal Rumble matches - 30-superstar battle royals that see the winner getting a shot at a championship match at Wrestlemania with all the associated pointing at signs that entails.

This year we've been promised both male and female Rumbles and, for many, the mix of current and ex-superstars, as well as surprise other names, is a highlight of the year.

While it's early days, and there's always some surprises on the night, we already know the men's Rumble will include Rey and Dominik Mysterio, Angelo Dawkins, Montez Ford, Austin Theory, Sheamus, Damian Priest, AJ Styles and Big E.

They will also be joined, somewhat randomly, by Jackass veteran Johnny Knoxville.

While few may expect him to impress as much as Bad Bunny did at Wrestlemania 37 (surely the celebrity WWE cameo all others must now be compared to), comedian Knoxville, 50, seems to be taking it seriously, announcing on Instagram that he in training for his appearance.

Fans can see on the WWE Network or BT Sport Box Office in the early hours of January 30 how successful that training has been.

Meanwhile the women's Rumble lineup is also already looking strong. As well as current superstars Rhea Ripley, Nikki ASH, Dana Brooke, Carmella, Queen Zelina, Tamina, Shotzi, Natalya, Aliyah, Naomi, Shayna Baszler and Charlotte Flair there is a also a series of iconic female veterans pulling their tights back on.

Nikki and Brie Bella will be joining Lita, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, Summer Rae in the ring while, in an unprecedent move, Impact Knockouts Champion Mickie James (acknowledged as such) will be returning to WWE for one night only too.
