The Titans (4-4) and Panthers (4-3) clash Sunday afternoon for only the sixth time in franchise history. Tennessee leads the all time-series 3-2, but Carolina won its last meeting, 27-10, in 2015. Tennessee comes into Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte winners of its last two games, including a 27-23 victory over Tampa Bay last weekend. Ryan Tannehill has taken over the reins nicely from Marcus Mariota. He threw for 193 yards, three touchdowns, but was sacked three times. Derrick Henry rushed for 75 yards and Jonnu Smith reeled in six balls for 78 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, the Titans made key plays against the Bucs when they needed to the most. As a unit, the team forced four turnovers, sacked Jameis Winston three times and held Tampa Bay to three field goals in the first half. Winston and the offense totaled 389 yards in the game, including 198 yards and two touchdowns to Mike Evans. Rashaan Evans led the Titans with 12 tackles, while Logan Ryan had an exceptional game with eight tackles, one sack, and one interception. This is an underrated unit that is holding opponents to an average 16.9 points per game, fourth-best in the NFL.
After four straight wins, the Carolina Panthers had the tough task of going against the San Francisco 49ers and their top-ranked defense. The Panthers lost 51-13, on the road, their lowest point total of the year, and arguably the worst game for quarterback Kyle Allen. Allen was 19 of 37 for 158 yards, three interceptions, and was sacked seven times. Christian McCaffrey was the lone bright spot and continued to show why he is one of the best backs in the league. He had 14 carries for 117 yards and one touchdown, which marked his fourth game over 100 yards and brought his total to 735 on the year.
The Panthers kept Jimmy Garoppolo in check with 175 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, but the running game burned them to the account of 232 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Carolina is ranked fifth in pass defense (215.1 YPG), but a mere 27th in rush defense with opponents averaging 135.1 YPG. Linebacker Luke Kuechly is a monster in the middle. He recorded ten tackles and one interception last weekend to bring his total to 72 on the season, fifth in the NFL.
