Space X rocket launch cancelled tonight - Starlink mission timings to be rearranged

You should have been able to catch a glimpse of a SpaceX rocket launch tonight.

The Elon Musk-backed rocket carrying 57 Starlink satellites was due to shoot into the sky from Florida at around 9.18pm BST tonight.

Mr Musk's goal is to create an internet network for parts of the world which are not well-connected.

The launch was initially set to go ahead on Thursday but was moved to Friday and has now been stood down again.

The team said on Twitter: "Standing down from today’s Starlink mission; team needed additional time for pre-launch checkouts, but Falcon 9 and the satellites are healthy. Will announce new target launch date once confirmed on the Range."

The launch, when it happens, should be visible to the naked eye as it passes eastwards over the UK, although at best it will appear to be a bright, rapidly moving dot.

It can also be watched online, live from the Kennedy Space Centre online here on Friday evening.

Over the days after the satellites do launch, there will also be opportunities to catch a glimpse of the Starlink as they orbit the earth.
