How to watch the John Wick movies in order: chronological and release date, where to stream, and more

Keanu Reeves' John Wick being held at gunpoint by many people in a promotional image for John Wick: Chapter 2, aka one of the entries on my John Wick movies in order guide.

Want to know how to watch the John Wick movies in order? We're here to help.

With Ballerina, the Ana de Armas-led in-between-quel set to arrive in theaters on June 6, I imagine you're planning your first or 20th John Wick movie marathon. So, whether you need our help determining how and where to stream them, or want a refresher on the best order to watch them in, this guide will answer your biggest queries.

Here, then, is how you can watch the Keanu Reeves-starring hitman film franchise in chronological and release date order.

Want to know how to watch the John Wick movies and TV shows in order of chronology? Here's how.

  • The Continental – set in the 1970s
  • John Wick – takes place in 2014
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 – events transpire in 2017
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – set in 2019
  • John Wick: Chapter 4 – set in 2023

For the most part, the John Wick timeline is really easy to follow. Indeed, the first four films take place in chronological order, so you won't have to, say, watch Chapter 4 before Chapter 3.

Things start to get a little more complicated when you factor The Continental, the money-spinning franchise's first TV show, into the equation.

It's set decades before John Wick: Chapter 1 so, while it wasn't released on Peacock TV (US) and Prime Video (internationally) until September 2023, i.e. four months after John Wick: Chapter 4, its events take place prior to the movie series' first installment. As such, it's the first project you should stream.

Once Ballerina is released, it'll further complicate matters. Its story runs concurrent to the events of the third John Wick flick, so I'll be adding it between that movie and franchise's fourth entry once one of 2025's new movies makes its theatrical debut.

Curious to learn how to watch the John Wick movies in order, plus The Continental, via their release dates? This is how.

  • John Wick – released in October 2024
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 – landed in theaters in February 2017
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – arrived in May 2019
  • John Wick: Chapter 4 – released in May 2023
  • The Continental – released in September 2023

This method is a far easier one to follow for first-time viewers as you'll just stream in order that they were released on the big and small screens. That said, given The Continental and Ballerina's placements on the timeline, you'll need to be aware that they don't take place after the first four John Wick films from a linear timeline standpoint.

Working out where you can watch the John Wick movies in order is a far more complex affair than determining the best order to watch them in. Indeed, with some of the world's best streaming services passing the licensing rights between them, it can be a struggle to keep track of where they're available.

As of May 2025, here's where you can stream every John Wick project apart from Ballerina, which won't be available at home for some time, in the US, UK, and Australia:

  • The Continental – Peacock (US); Prime Video (UK and Australia)
  • John Wick – Prime Video and Peacock (US); Prime Video (UK); Netflix and Prime Video (Australia)
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 – Prime Video and Peacock (US); Prime Video (UK); Netflix and Stan (Australia)
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – Prime Video and Peacock (US); Netflix and Prime Video (UK); Netflix and Stan (Australia)
  • John Wick: Chapter 4 – Peacock, Starz, and Prime Video (US); Prime Video (UK); Netflix (Australia)

US readers should know that the first three films are leaving Peacock on June 14. So, if you're reading this guide after that date, you can't stream them there anymore.

John Wick movies ranked, from best to worst

Determining how to rank the John Wick movies in order from worst to be is a subjective topic. Some people will say the first one is the undisputed king, while others will claim that more recent entries are far better.

To try and settle the debate in the fairest way possible, I've ranked the first four films, plus The Continental, based on their Rotten Tomatoes critical and audience scores, which appear before and after each slash mark. That way, you'll have a much better idea of which movies are considered to be the cream of the crop and whether The Continental can stand up against them.

  • John Wick: Chapter 4 – 94% / 93%
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – 89% / 86%
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 – 89% / 85%
  • John Wick – 86% / 82%
  • The Continental – 63% / 77%
