How to watch the 2019 Emmys

The biggest names in television will gather Sunday evening at Microsoft Theater for the 71st edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The host-free show will begin at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on FOX.

Taking a cue from the Oscars, which went without a host after controversy surrounding initial pick Kevin Hart, the Emmys won’t have anyone on hand for the first time since 2003. Last year’s show on NBC was led by Saturday Night Live writers Colin Jost and Michael Che. Other recent hosts include Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Andy Samberg.

Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told reporters the decision allows the Emmys to give more time to say farewell to legendary shows like “Game of Thrones,” which earned 14 nominations this year.

HBO set the pace among the big networks with a record-setting 47 nominations led by the fantasy epic. “Succession” is also up for Most Outstanding Drama, and “Chernobyl,” is one of five shows in the mix for Outstanding Limited Series.

Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are also among the big winners in terms of nominations this year, which shows how quickly streaming programming has earned the respects of Emmy voters. We’ll see who ends up taking away the hardware soon.
