ON Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hand down its judgement on the definition of a "woman".
Campaign Group For Women Scotland (FWS) raised hundreds of thousands of pounds via a crowdfunder to take the case to the UK's highest court.
The row started in 2022 when FWS took the Scottish Government to court over its definition of “women” in the Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act.
The case resulted in the Scottish Government changing the definition in the act so that "woman" is now defined by the Equality Act and the Gender Recognition Act 2004, meaning those with a full Gender Recognition Certificate can legally be defined as women for the purposes of the legislation.
FWS were unhappy with the amended definition and called for a second judicial review, with was defeated in December 2022, and an appeal lost in November 2023.
In February last year, it was announced that the case would be headed to the Supreme Court, with a series of hearings held in November.
