Atletico Madrid will look to get their Club World Cup campaign back on track today as they face the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.
Diego Simeone’s side were roundly beaten in their opening tie, falling 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain under the beating California sun as Clement Lenglet was sent off late in the second half.
It was a dismal outing for the Rojiblancos, who mustered just one shot on target in the tie and now face a race against time to reverse their fortunes and progress to the tournament’s knockout stages.
Seattle, too, were slow off the mark, though, beaten out by Botafogo in their own backyard. They fell 2-1 on the day, Cristian Roldan scoring their late consolation.
The first MLS side to have reached the Club World Cup, making a first appearance in 2022, they are carrying the flag for American club football, but could be facing elimination if they cannot muster a strong result against Atletico.
