San Diego State drives up the 5 to take on UCLA at Pasadena. Both teams are looking forward to today’s matchup. The Aztecs have not fared well in their all-time record against UCLA, going 0-21-1. The tide might be in their favor today as the Mountain West is riding an upset swell of Power-5 opponents early this season.
UCLA is looking for their first victory after getting beat in Cincinnati and desperately looking to overcome their 3-9 record in 2018. Last season, it was Fresno State who upset the Bruins in Pasadena. From the couches, Chip Kelly needs this win more than Rocky Long needs this win.
Marquee Matchup: Dorian Thompson-Robinson v Tariq Thompson
Thompson-Robinson struggled against Cincinnati’s defense going 8/26 for 156 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. UCLA’s playing a better defense this week won’t help the sophomore quarterback adjust to Rocky Long’s defense.
The SDSU defense is on track to keep their reputation after Weber State’s shutout. Tariq Thompson continues to improve on defense, making tackles and defending passes. Don’t put it past the Thompson, a San Diego native, and the other Aztecs getting up to play against guys that were recruited in the backyard along the west coast and Hawaii.
If Joshua Kelley finds himself available for this game this would be RB v LB, but we’re going with QB v DB.
