Franco Mastantuono will look to announce himself on the big stage when River Plate face Urawa Red Diamonds in a Club World Cup showdown tonight.
Mastantuono, who has already agreed to join Real Madrid later this summer, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Argentinian football at the moment.
Having come through the ranks at River Plate, the 17-year-old hasmaking his first-team debut in January 2024. The following month he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer and recently made his debut for the Argentina national team, claiming another record by appearing as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Chile.
Hoping to keep Mastantuono quiet is a Urawa Reds side that secured their place in the new-look Club World Cup by virtue of winning the 2022 AFC Champions League winners.
Recognised one of Japan’s most decorated clubs, Urawa will be out to give a good account of themselves in what will be their third appearance at the competition.
