One of the two remaining College Football Playoff hopefuls out of the Pac-12 will try and keep its playoff aspirations alive on Saturday, as the Oregon Ducks travel to Southern California to take on the USC Trojans. With one loss already on the season, the Oregon Ducks face what is essentially an elimination game on the road against an improving USC squad.

The Oregon Ducks (7-1, 5-0) have been playing de facto elimination games every week of the season following their season-opening loss to the Auburn Tigers. They have passed each of those tests thus far, including last week’s, 37-35, victory over the Washington State Cougars. Oregon gave up a touchdown to relinquish the lead with one minute to go in that game but managed to get the ball down the field quickly to kick a game-winning field goal as time expired. While the offensive praise usually goes to quarterback Justin Herbert, it was running back CJ Verdell who earned the spotlight in the win over the Cougars. Verdell rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns and will face a tough test in a physical defensive front from USC.
USC (5-3, 4-1) also won a tight game in its last contest, defeating Colorado, 35-31, on the road. The Trojans trailed by double digits multiple times in the game but managed to come back thanks to a 406 yard, four touchdown performance from quarterback Kedon Slovis. USC has already defeated one of the teams tied at the top of the Pac-12 standings in Utah, giving the Utes their only loss of the season thus far. If they deal a loss to Oregon in this game, they could make massive waves in the College Football Playoff picture.
