Oklahoma State vs. Iowa State

  • When: Saturday, October 26

The Cowboys have been in a tailspin after an optimistic 3-0 start. The team has gone 1-3 over its last four starts, while the No. 23 Cyclones have won their last three games, all while scoring over 30 points each game.

Iowa State’s offense has found its most success in the air. They rank 10th in the country with 320.7 passing yards per game. Much of that has to do with quarterback Brock Purdy, who has passed for 2,185 yards, 14 touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 70 percent of his attempts. In last weekend’s game against Texas Tech, Purdy went 23-for-32 with 378 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Running back Breece Hall was just as impressive, tallying 9.6 yards per carry, picking up 183 yards on 19 carries.

While the Cyclones may be one of the best in the country on offense, the team’s defense needs to do a better job. Iowa State ranks 34th in the country with 21.3 PPG allowed.

Cowboys QB Spencer Sanders had a disappointing game against No. 14 Baylor in a 45-27 loss, going just 18-for-32 with 157 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Sanders still has passed for 1,490 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, but he’s also been sloppy with nine interceptions Pay close attention to running back Chuba Hubbard, who has rushed for 1,265 yards and 15 touchdowns.

If the Cowboys can limit mistakes unlike what they did in the Baylor game and put pressure on Purdy, then they definitely have a good chance at winning. Against Baylor, Oklahoma State sacked Charlie Brewer four times.

In the past 10 years, Oklahoma State has won seven games, including a stretch of six straight from 2012-17. But Iowa State took last year’s, 48-42, in Stillwater.
