After becoming bowl eligible, the Indiana Hoosiers (6-2, 3-2) are aiming to bolster their postseason resume as they host the struggling Northwestern Wildcats (1-6, 0-5) at Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening. This Big Ten clash may not draw many headlines or plaudits due to its lopsided nature, but it could be big for the home team’s bowl placement.

It hasn’t been a very good year for Northwestern, especially on offense, where it ranks near the bottom of the entire nation in points scored per game at 10.7 PPG. The No. 19 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes piled onto their misery this past weekend with a 20-0 shutout of the Wildcats. The lack of points goes to show just how bad of a season it’s been for them so far. They’ve only managed to score 13 total points in their last three games. Needless to say, Northwestern’s season is headed in a dark direction with very little signs of hope to turn it around any time soon.
That spells good news for the host, as Indiana looks to collect its seventh win of the season after what some have described as a “breakout” 38-31 win on the road against Nebraska. Quarterback Peyton Ramsey threw for an impressive 351 yards and two touchdowns in the huge victory for his team. The sixth win opened the doors for the Hoosiers to play in a bowl game this winter. The goal for Tom Allen’s emerging bunch now is to obviously win as many games as possible to earn a ticket to a more prestigious bowl. The last two bowl games Indiana has appeared in are the Foster Farms Bowl in 2016 and the Pinstripe Bowl in 2015.
