How to watch National Theatre's Frankenstein online free, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller both play the roles of the scientist and his monstrous creation in the National Theatre’s Frankenstein, which will be released online this week.

The two actors starred in Danny Boyle’s production in 2011, alternating the roles.

Nick Dear’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel will be streamed for free on YouTube as part of the National Theatre at Home series.

How to watch National Theatre’ Frankenstein online

The first version, with Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature, will live-stream on Thursday April 30 at 7pm, available until May 7:

The second, with Jonny Lee Miller as the creature, will live-stream on Friday May 1 at 7pm, available until May 8:

What is Frankenstein about?

Gifted scientist Victor Frankenstein succeeds in giving life to a being he has created, but, disappointed by his grotesque form, he casts him out. Rejected and met with cruelty wherever he goes, he becomes determined to track down his creator.

Which other theatre shows are in National Theatre at Home?

Antony & Cleopatra, starring Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo, will be the next show, premiering on May 7.

One Man Two Guvnors, Jane Eyre, Treasure Island and Twelfth Night have already been streamed.
