Trinidad and Tobago will attempt to end a run of seven meetings without a win over Mexico when it travels to face its Central American rivals in Toluca on Wednesday. The Estadio Nemesio Diez will host the pair in a friendly clash before Mexico begins its CONCACAF Nations League campaign against Bermuda on Oct. 12.

It’s been a little more than one year and 10 matches since Trinidad and Tobago last tasted victory on the pitch–a 2-0 friendly triumph over the United Arab Emirates last September.
Mexico has beaten the Soca Warriors in its last two encounters—it’s undefeated in seven meetings—though the rivalry will be less familiar almost two years since they last faced off.
Gerardo Martino has opted to give youth a chance in this low-risk environment and selected a squad comprised of youngsters. In fact, the average age of the squad is 21 years old, illustrating the faith Martino has in his selection to get the job done.
Only four outfield players on the Mexican squad have already been capped at senior level: Erick Aguirre, Jonathan Gonzalez, Gerardo Arteaga, and Jesus Alberto Angulo. The rest remain untested at this standard.
Trinidad and Tobago may not have won in its last 10 matches, but the good news is the Caribbean representatives are unbeaten in their CONCACAF Nations League group so far. The bad news is contenders Honduras is yet to begin its quest and could well top the pool.
Mexico won’t begin its Nations League campaign until later in October, but Martino & Co. will consider a positive result on Wednesday as the next step in their preparations for that start.
