Mexico made their debut in the Nations League in dominant fashion, confirming their status as favorites against Bermuda and winning 5-1 away from home thanks to a brace by José Macías and a great performance by Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano. Lozano is firmly established as the best player in the El Tri squad and will look at the Panama game as another opportunity to prove his quality to the home fans. Mexico will be very close to a place in the semis if they win, so manager Tata Martino will not take this one lightly and is expected to play a very strong team.
And that will be necessary against Panama, who desperately need at least a point after a terrible home loss to Bermuda last month, which put their Nations League semi-final hopes in jeopardy. Panama and Mexico have always played tight matches, with the last four decided by a single goal. Unfortunately, Mexico won three of them, so it’s a tough task for the away team. But you never know with CONCACAF, so this should be a good one.
