KEIR Starmer is set to tell Labour conference that “Britain stands at a fork in the road” during his leader’s speech on Tuesday.
He is expected to take aim at Reform UK and tell attendees he is “proud of the Saltire” and urge the public to “fly all our flags” amid heated UK-wide debates as far-right activists encouraged people to hang the Union Jack, St George’s Cross and the Saltire from lampposts and bridges across the country.
His speech comes after a slate of scandals hit the party, including the loss of Angela Rayner over unpaid stamp duty on a second home and Peter Mandelson’s sacking for historic ties to the disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
What time will Keir Starmer be speaking?
Starmer is due to give his conference speech at 2pm.
He is expected to say: “Britain stands at a fork in the road. We can choose decency. Or we can choose division.
“Renewal or decline. A country – proud of its values, in control of its future or one that succumbs, against the grain of our history, to the politics of grievance.”
Where can I watch Keir Starmer’s conference speech?
The Labour Party’s official YouTube channel has been livestreaming the conference, and you can watch on their channel here.
Major broadcasters, including the BBC and Sky News, will also likely show the speech.
What has been said ahead of the speech?
Stephen Flynn, Westminster leader for the SNP, said of Starmer’s flag-based speech: "It is ironic and pretty desperate that Keir Starmer is now wrapping himself in no less than four flags, but even that won't cushion the fall as his popularity hits rock bottom. "If Keir Starmer actually had any respect for Scotland, our Saltire and our democracy, he would stop denying our people the right to choose a future beyond the doom loop of broken, Brexit Britain."
