Week 9 of the NFL season brings us a matchup in the AFC East that could have big implications for the next draft. That’s right, it’s tank season with the Miami Dolphins still on track for that 0-16 season. They host the 1-6 New York Jets, who are also still in contention for the worst record in the league and that coveted No. 1 draft pick.
Jets vs. Dolphins

The Jets have many problems that the No. 1 overall pick could help solve. The Sam Darnold era isn’t going as smoothly as anyone had hoped for. The No. 3 overall pick from 2018 threw three interceptions to go with his two touchdowns in the team’s 29-15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend. The three interceptions bring his total for the season to eight with only five total touchdowns through the air. On the other side of the ball, there isn’t a lot of excitement either. The Jets defense is middling in yards allowed per game and the eighth-worst in the league in points allowed per game.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins are on pace to become just the third team since the turn of the century to go 0-16 in an NFL season. Their history of being the only team to go perfect and win a Championship is well-known, but now they’re on the opposite end of the record books. Another loss, this time a 27-14 defeat vs. Steelers on Monday Night Football, only solidified their chances of securing that dubious honor. With half of the season gone, this matchup with the Jets is one of their best opportunities to get their first win.
