With the college football rankings coming out earlier this week and the Sooners (7-1) ranked at No. 9, every game is important to climb up the rankings. This week the Iowa State Cyclones (5-3) visit Norman for a Saturday night contest.

Coming off a bye week, the Sooners have something to prove after a 48-41 loss to No. 20 Kansas State. Oklahoma gave up 48 points, 426 total yards and KSU was on the field for over 38 minutes. Those figures were season-highs and something that should motivate the defense this week.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts has carried the offensive workload for the Sooners through eight games this season, but the team needs to show that it’s more than just Hurts that can beat Iowa State. The Sooners have one of the deepest and most talented core of running backs in the nation, yet Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks were nearly absent from the box score vs. Kansas State.
The Cyclones are looking for a repeat of this 2017 clash when they got a shocking 38-31 road win. The Cyclones came up short against the Oklahoma State Cowboys two weeks ago, falling 34-27. Iowa State is all about an offensive aerial attack. Quarterback Brock Purdy has thrown 15 touchdowns and only 11 teams in the nation have a higher passing play percentage than Iowa State.
