The Champions League group stage returns for the third round of matches this week. Spanish giants Real Madrid are in desperation mode after falling to the very bottom of Group A because of a shocking draw to Club Brugge at home and an embarrassing opening match loss to PSG. Turkish side Galatasaray is the team’s next obstacle. They’re also only at one point and very eager to get full points to help their chances of advancing to the next stage. It could be another tense night for Los Blancos.

Another massive bump in Real Madrid’s already tumultuous season occurred over the weekend when the team lost, 1-0, to Mallorca, relinquishing the top spot in La Liga to Barcelona. This was their second loss of the campaign in just 11 total matches. They’ve also failed to win four other times, earning only a point in those. Zinedine Zidane has yet to have a full complement of healthy players to select from and has yet to settle on a first-choice lineup because of that. The inconsistency within the squad has translated to the results. A win against Galatasaray would be a huge step towards regaining European success that hid a mediocre run in La Liga for so long.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray hasn’t started the season off well at all. The team’s Champions League group stage started off with just one point through two matches, while its league success hasn’t been what you’d expect. Galatasaray sits in fourth place with just three wins from the first eight matches played. The struggles scoring goals has been a huge reason for Galatasaray’s slow start, managing just nine goals in 10 matches. If the team has any hope of knocking of Real Madrid, it’ll need to find someone to hit the back of the net.
