They have transformed this team into a scoring machine that is running away with the Brazilian league title and clinched a place in the Libertadores final with a 5-0 second leg win over 2017 champions Gremio. Flamengo hasn’t played this game in 38 years, so the anticipation and excitement is palpable.
If Flamengo has the flair and the goals, River Plate has the experience. Under coach Marcelo Gallardo, who could be off to Barcelona in the coming months, River went from the second division in Argentina to two Libertadores titles since 2015. Now it has the chance to go back-to-back, which is a very rare thing in South America.
