It’s hard to believe the Colts and Falcons haven’t played since 2015. Indianapolis won that contest, 24-21, and has dominated the all-time series with 14 wins in 16 games. Both teams are 1-1 heading into Sunday afternoon’s game in Indianapolis with the Colts coming off of a 19-17 win against the Titans and the Falcons a 24-20 win vs. the Eagles.

Down 20-17 with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter, wide receiver Julio Jones hauled in a Matt Ryan pass and broke free for 54 yards and a touchdown. That effort sealed the deal for the Falcons and gave them a 24-20 victory over the Eagles and their first win of the season. Matt Ryan went 27-for-43 with 320 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan also threw three picks in the game, which kept Philadelphia in it. Jones ended his day with 106 yards receiving and two touchdowns, while Calvin Ridley showed why he was the Falcons first round pick in 2018. Ridley brought in eight passes for 105 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown reception.
The Falcons are ranked third in total defense, allowing a minuscule 277.5 yards per game to opponents. They are even stingier when it comes to the passing game. Teams are throwing for an average of 167.5 yards per game, making them the best in the NFL. Desmond Trufant picked off two Carson Wentz passes, while the defensive line comprised of Grady Jarrett, Vic Beasley Jr., and Adrian Clayborn all had a sack on the game. Strong safety Keanu Neal led the Falcons with nine tackles.
Indianapolis held on for a 19-17 Week 2 win against the Tennessee Titans. Jacoby Brissett completed 17 of 28 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Brissett is filling in nicely for the recently retired Andrew Luck, and the running backs are doing their part as well. Jordan Wilkins picked up 82 yards on the ground, with Marlon Mack adding 51 more. The Colts currently rank second in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 185. The speedy T.Y. Hilton, tight end Eric Ebron and rookie Parris Campbell were all on the receiving end of Brissett’s touchdown passes. Kicker Adam Vinatieri, the NFL’s all-time scoring leader, has been inconsistent in the kicking game throughout two games and many are wondering if his career could be coming to an end. In two games, he’s missed two field goals and three extra points.
The Colts pass rush has been putting opposing quarterbacks on their back. Darius Leonard had ten tackles and one sack against the Titans, Khari Willis added seven more tackles and defensive tackle Denico Autry notched four tackles and two sacks. As a unit, the defense is second in the NFL with eight sacks this season.
