The Premier League is back this weekend, and Saturday’s marquee matchup takes place at Goodison Park where the defending champions will look to keep the momentum. After its biggest league win, Manchester City faces Everton and a manager under a lot of pressure to perform and meet expectations.

After the loss at Norwich, a few people dared to question Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, so they followed that up with a dominant Champions League win away to Shakhtar Donetsk, a League Cup win away to Preston North End, and a historic 8-0 win over Watford in the Premier League. City has scored 14 goals and conceded none in its last three games, answering plenty of questions about its defense and showing that the Norwich game was nothing but an accident for one of the most dominant teams in Premier League history. Now they need to keep chasing leaders Liverpool, who remain five points clear and can’t afford any slip-ups until the clubs meet in November. Everton is the toughest challenge until then, but City has won comfortably in its last two visits to Goodison and are ready to start a winning streak.
For the Toffees, this isn’t just about playing the role of spoiler and trying to get something against the champions. Everton has invested a lot and Marco Silva is considered one of the best managers in the Premier League, so the expectations before the season were that this squad could get into the Top 6 and be at the same level as the best teams in the country. So far the team has just two wins and seven points from its opening six games and is sitting in 14th place in the table, which is not acceptable for a team with so much talent. Everton needs to give Manchester City a run for its money. If Everton suffers a bad defeat, then Marco Silva’s job could be hanging by a thread.
