Frank Lampard’s youngsters let off some steam during midweek with a 7-1 romp of League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. Sometimes results like that can give you some much-needed confidence going back to league play. Other times it can give you a false sense of security. It will be interesting to see how Chelsea responds against a team it should get three points against. While it’s still early in the season, the team could desperately use full points from this match as it sits in 11th heading into the weekend with the top of the table slowly drifting away.
For Brighton to pull off the upset, it’ll need to win for the first time since the opening match of the season. It’s been rough going for the Seagulls this season, as they come into play sitting 15th in the table and trending downwards. With only five goals scored on the season, it’s easy to see that putting the ball in the back of the net has led to the slide down the table. Considering that three of those five came in that opening weekend win, it’s a very poor run of form they’re currently on. Chelsea’s defensive struggles could be exactly what is needed for its goal scoring woes.
