Los Angeles won its second straight game, handing the Packers just their second loss of the season with a 26-11 win at home. Philip Rivers was 21 of 28 for 294 yards. Running back Melvin Gordon logged his best game of the season with 20 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Williams and Hunter Henry helped Rivers and the air attack with 111 and 84 yards, respectively. As a unit, they compiled 442 yards of total offense.
The Chargers defense is ranked in the Top 10 in points allowed, total yards allowed and passing yards allowed. This was evident against the Packers last weekend. Aaron Rodgers threw for a mere 161 yards and one touchdown, while the running game was held to 45 total yards. Even more impressive, was the defense’s ability to hold Green Bay to two third-down conversions in 10 attempts. This defensive line is fierce with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. The pair combined for seven tackles and three sacks. Don’t try and think you can beat them with the deep ball though. The Chargers are fifth in pass defense with opponents averaging 208.7 YPG.
Oakland hasn’t beaten the Chargers at home since 2016. The Raiders snapped a two-game losing streak last weekend with a 31-24 home victory against the Lions. A late touchdown and a defensive stop was the difference in the game. Derek Carr completed 20 of 31 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Josh Jacobs continues to be a valuable asset on offense. Jacobs rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns, his third game this season with over 100 yards rushing.
Karl Joseph broke up a fourth-down pass in the end zone to seal the win for the Raiders. Matt Stafford threw for 406 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and was sacked twice. The secondary will need to be ready for a Chargers team that likes to throw it deep and has the NFL passing yards leader to prove it. Erik Harris led the Raiders with 10 tackles, while Tahir Whitehead and Trayvon Muller each picked up seven.
