How to watch Bristol Bears v Dragons in the European Challenge Cup quarter-final

Sadly there will be no fans at Bristol Bears’ biggest game of the season yet due to the government restriction on large crowds gathering during the coronavirus pandemic, but that does not mean you can’t follow every moment of the action from this weekend’s game.

Bears director of rugby Pat Lam said he was sad fans could not be at Ashton Gate to watch his side in a huge game for the club but he still expects his side to have a home advantage.

He said: "We would still rather play at home but having fans, and I would say we would have had 27,000 at this game, would make a difference.

"We have got an unbelievable fan base which is just growing and we have sold out Ashton Gate a few times and there is no doubt we would have had a big crowd for a European quarter-final.

"But we would far prefer to be playing at Ashton Gate rather than anywhere else."

When is the game and what time is kick-off?

Bristol Bears take on the Dragons in the quarter-final of the European Challenge Cup at Ashton Gate, with the game kicking off at 7.45pm on Friday night.

How can I watch and follow the game?

The game will be shown live on BT Sport 2 with coverage starting at 7pm with the game the biggest rugby game on TV on Friday.

If you do not have a subscription to BT you can follow the game on our LIVE play-by-play matchday blog, or you can listen to live commentary from BBC Radio Bristol.

What is the history between the sides in the Challenge Cup?

Bristol Bears and the Dragons have met twice in the Challenge Cup before with each club recording a home win in the pool stage of the 2006/07 campaign. Both matches were decided by margins of fewer than seven points.

Bristol have played in four previous Challenge Cup quarter-finals, winning their first match at this stage back in 2000, but losing the following three including last season away at La Rochelle.

The Dragons are not to be underestimated as they have a 100 percent success rate in Challenge Cup quarter-finals, winning each of their three matches including an away victory against Gallagher Premiership side Gloucester in 2016 when they last reached the last eight.
