How to watch BBC's Britney Spears documentary Battle For Britney

Britney Spears found herself back in the headlines after fans became gripped by a new documentary about her conservatorship.

The Framing Britney Spears documentary from the New York Times reopened the debate over the pop icon's life and career.

It also prompted an outpouring of support using the 'Free Britney' tag.

The BBC has now released its own doc, The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship which follows bafta-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar as he travels from the pop star's hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, to Los Angeles to meet fans.

Britney's father Jamie Spears has been her conservator since 2008 after the singer had a public breakdown.

He retains joint control of her estate alongside a wealth management company, despite Britney asking for him to be ousted from his role.

Jamie, 68, had also overseen his daughter's personal affairs but stepped down from that role in September 2019 due to health reasons.

Britney, 39, is set to address a US court over the conservatorship next month.

But the pop star appears to have hit out at the programmes about her life on social media.

She wrote on Instagram alongside a video of her dancing: "Geez !!!! 2021 is definitely way better than 2020 but I never knew it was gonna be like THIS!!!!

"So many documentaries about me this year with other people’s takes on my life … what can I say … I’m deeply flattered !!!!

"These documentaries are so hypocritical … they criticize the media and then do the same thing?????

"Damn … I don’t know y’all but I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I’ve had some pretty tough times in my life … I’ve had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life and unfortunately my friends … I think the world is more interested in the negative!!!!

"I mean … isn’t this supposed to be a business and society about THE FUTURE???? Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago????”

She continued: "I have so many trips I’m looking forward to taking this summer and I can’t wait to dance in different studios!!!!

"I’m hoping to get a miniature koi pond in my backyard as well!!!! I know I’m weird but hey … it’s the little things you know … and I’m so grateful for my beautiful backyard!!!!"

She also appeared to confirm she has now watched Framing Britney Spears, which includes an interview with a paparazzi who claimed she did not mind him filming her, writing: "PSSSSS no paparazzi guy … I didn’t want you and your crew following me around !!!!”

The singer previously said she “cried for two weeks” after being embarrassed by the high-profile documentary, but said she had not watched it.

BBC's The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship, is on BBC iPlayer on now and will be broadcast on BBC Two this Wednesday, May 5, at 9pm.
