Barcelona could be knocked off their perch atop La Liga as they host Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp this evening.
The Blaugrana are the early leaders in La Liga this season, taking 34 points from their opening 13 matches.
Other title hopefuls are not far behind, though. Tonight’s opposition, Atletico, sit fourth in the table, but are just three points adrift of Hansi Flick’s men, and could take top spot tonight if they win by a four-goal margin. Real Madrid and Villarreal are also in the running.
The odds fall slightly in Atleti’s favour, too. They visit Barcelona on a run of seven wins in all competitions, their last loss coming at the hands of Arsenal in October.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are still reeling after their 3-0 Champions League defeat by Chelsea. Saturday’s 3-0 win over Alaves has done little to brighten the mood.
They will contest the match without captain Ronald Araujo, also, after he was granted an indefinite leave of absence to focus on his mental health.
“We know we are up against a fantastic team with a lot of quality," Flick said ahead of the match. "It will be a tough encounter.”
