This is the second game in five days for both teams in the United States. However, they’ve had very different results. Mexico faced the USMNT again just three months after beating them in the Gold Cup, and it was another party night for El Tri. The Mexicans won, 3-0, with a dominant performance from back to front, and an especially great night for midfielder Tecatito Corona, who was a terror for the USA backline and was involved in everything good that Mexico did.
Argentina was in Los Angeles to face Chile, and this was a much less intense encounter compared to the one they had in the Copa América third-place playoff, which resulted in a red card and a three-month international suspension for captain Lionel Messi, who couldn’t face La Roja in this friendly. It turned out to be a lackluster performance from both sides and a 0-0 draw that really didn’t please the crowd.
Things will be a lot different this time. The atmosphere will be amazing, with a majority of Mexican fans expected, and Argentina will have to raise their level of competition against a Mexico side virtually unstoppable right now.
