How to walk into Manchester from Parklife festival this weekend

Manchester's biggest music event of the year is back at Heaton Park this weekend - and we want to make sure festival goers know how to get home safely.

The likes of George Ezra, Cardi B and The Streets will take to the stage for the two-day festival taking place on Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9.

Gates will open at 11am on the Saturday and at 12 noon on the Sunday, closing at 11pm both days. So you don't have a panic about how to get home once the day draws to a close, Transport for Greater Manchester are providing options to suit everyone.

If you don't fancy getting on an overcrowded shuttle bus or you're thinking of giving the trek to find the nearest tram a miss, then here's how to walk back to Manchester city centre from Heaton Park.

Walking back from Parklife will be a good chance to clear your head as the journey will take around an hour. Although it may seem long, it's likely to be the quickest option given all the congestion from the festival, as well as obviously being the cheapest.

There is a clear walking route along Bury Old Road, which will be sign posted to and from the city centre to Heaton Park, and it's definitely best to stick to it rather than go off course.

There will also be plenty of other people walking with you.

The walk is thankfully flat so it won't be too strenuous. Starting off at Sheepfoot Lane, you can either follow signs straight down Bury Old Road (west of Heaton Park) or Middleton Road (east of Heaton Park), where you will eventually join Bury Old Road. Follow the signs along Cheetham Hill Road, where you will eventually see Manchester city centre on the horizon.

In case you haven't memorised those directions, here's a map that you could take a screenshot of so you're extra prepared. Although there will be signs to follow on the night.
