How to volunteer at Covid vaccine booster centres

The government announced this week that they aim to get every adult vaccinated with a Covid-19 booster vaccine before the new year.

This is to help tackle the spread of the Omicron variant, which Boris Johnson referred to as a "tidal wave" on Sunday.

While it's an ambitious goal, it means that demands for the jab have increased greatly overnight which has resulted in more pressure on vaccination centres.

Extremely long queues have been spotted at vaccination centres across the country as the public rushes to get their jab.

Unfortunately, this also means that staff at vaccination centres are working longer shifts to keep up with the increased workload.

One way this pressure on staff can be alleviated is by having members of the public volunteer at booster centres.

Steward Volunteers help at Covid-19 vaccination centres by guiding and supporting attendees receiving their jabs.

Volunteers can apply online via the NHS Volunteer Responders website.

The role will require volunteers to commit to at least two shifts a month at a vaccination centre with shifts lasting up to four hours each time.

To take part in the NHS volunteer programme, you will need access to a smartphone because tasks and shifts are made available within a smartphone app.
