How to use Spotify's Only You playlist and listen to your birth chart

If you were in need of another Spotify ‘Wrapped’ - or even if you weren’t - the Swedish audio streaming platform has launched an ‘Only You’ feature.

It charts your musical birth chart, as well as some nifty other features like creating a dream dinner party of your most listened to artists and a ‘unique’ artist pairing feature.

The whole idea is for you to share them on social media and hence create a buzz, but some of them are interesting – and as Spotify doesn't release these ‘data-driven’ features very often, always cool to look at.

So here’s how you can find your ‘Only You’ playlist, and here’s to hoping there’s something interesting/cool that you can share for those social media creds.

How to access the Only You feature on Spotify

To access the new Spotify feature, you simply need to open the app on your phone and find the ‘Only You’ section on your home screen. If you can’t find it you may need to update your app to the latest version of Android/iOS.

Once there, simply click in and Spotify will start showing you your personalised musical birth chart. It will give you some choices along the way, and if you think any of the sections make you look particularly cool/interesting (let’s face it, that’s the only reason you would) you can share them on your stories.

What is the Spotify birth chart and how do you listen to it?

The feature will show your musical birth chart – effectively your most listened to artist (sun), most emotional artist (moon) and an artist you discovered recently (rising) – as well as letting you choose a dream dinner party from a selection of top artists and showing you a ‘unique’ artists pairing that you listened to consecutively to show how interesting you are.

It’s similar to the Wrapped feature that Spotify uses every year, but in miniaturised form. From a glance at social media it would seem to be reasonably popular, but is unlikely to be so ubiquitous as the former mentioned feature that they use annually.

How to use Spotify’s new Blend feature

As well as the launch of ‘Only You’, Spotify has created a new Blend feature in which you and a friend can merge your musical tastes to create a constantly updating playlist.

To use Blend, which is currently in Beta mode, simply find your ‘Made For You’ section using the search tool and create a Blend by inviting a friend to collaborate.

The playlist will show whose taste contributed what track, whether it’s something both of you are listening to or whether it’s just one of you with esoteric tastes.

It’s unclear how long the feature will last, but Spotify has said it plans to keep updating it based on feedback.
