Two years after Diablo 4’s launch, Blizzard has added one of the most requested quality-of-life features to the game: loot filters. It’s part of the changes and additions introduced with its latest expansion, Lord of Hatred.
Loot filter is a free addition to both the PC and console versions of Diablo 4. You can use and customize it to your liking in the Gameplay section of the Options tab. Simply look for ‘Open Loot Filter,’ and you’re good to go.
Additionally, you can enable the loot filter shortcut in the game menu, so you don’t have to go all the way to the gameplay option every time you need to customize it. But how does the loot filter function, and what conditions can you add to make the gameplay experience more convenient?
It can be slightly overwhelming, especially if you haven’t used it before in games such as Path of Exile, but fret not. Below, we explain how the loot filter functions in Diablo 4.
How does loot filter work in Diablo 4?
Simply put, the loot filter lets you decide what loot you see or do not see in the game. As for the loot you want to see, you can customize its color to make it easier to see.
In the loot filter option, you can create new filters and add up to 25 rules with unique conditions and properties. These range from simpler options, such as tweaking what rarity of items you see or do not see, to more complicated ones, like gear with specific affixes.
For instance, if you’re farming for an affix that increases weapon damage, you can select and enable this specific affix (or a greater affix) in the property list and change its color for better visibility. Now, every time a gear with that selected affix drops, you should be able to identify it easily.
At the same time, you can hide the loot you don’t want to see. For instance, if you’re above level 30, it’s probably not worth picking up common or magic items. As such, you can select common and magic items from the Item Rarity Match and hide their visibility.
This is a great way to hide an abundance of unwanted loot and diminish the overwhelming feeling you may get in activities such as Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons, where there’s no shortage of loot drops.
So far, you can tinker with 10 loot filter conditions. These are:
- Talisman Set Bonus
- Item Power Range
- Item Rarity Match
- Item Properties
- Codex Upgrade Check
- Greater Affix Check
- Item Type Match
- Has Required Affex
- Is Specific Unique
Depending on your character’s level and world difficulty, your loot requirements will differ, and you can tweak the loot filter accordingly.
It’s worth noting that loot filters are currently disabled for couch co-op in Diablo 4. Blizzard has yet to acknowledge or address the issue, which has some players immensely frustrated.
