Braid brigade
‘Craft a French braid across your forehead and down the side of your face to act like a hairband,’ suggests Syd Hayes. ‘Afterwards, take haphazard sections of hair and create additional plaits in a variety of sizes as desired.’
Snap up
The Alexander Wang AW18 runway declared Nineties ’dos alive and well. Add an old-school snap clip to either side of a low-slung pony and you’re good to go.
New wave
Add a miniature plait to the bottom side of your blowout for blink-and-you’ll-miss-it intrigue. ‘I use the Babyliss Deep Waves styler (£50, babyliss.co.uk) to create this modern wave, as well as clip-in extensions for extra length and volume when required,’ says Hayes.
Fishtail braid
‘Swap a regular plait for a fishtail braid,’ suggests Hayes. ‘Split your hair into two low ponies at the nape of the neck and add in hair section by section over the top of the tail into the opposite tail. Once done, tie off with grosgrain ribbon.’
Comb cool
Upgrade your ballet bun with the Nineties plastic comb band that you used to sport at school. We’ll see you in class.
That’s a wrap
Wrap your pleats, plaits, twists and tucks in leather cord or fine ribbon from your local haberdashery to match your outfit of choice.
Victory roll
Turn a bad hair day good with this three-minute style. ‘Craft a pin curl just above one ear with a curling wand and clip it in place with a kirby grip or comb,’ says Hayes. ‘The more flyaways the better — there’s beauty in imperfection.’
