Unlock the Inside Out Realm in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Your first mission is to unlock the Inside Out Realm, which costs 15,000 Dreamlight. Once you've paid this price, you also need to tackle two additional quests before you can enter, which are:
- Cook a dish that makes you happy. Make any meal you want at a cooking station to restore some happiness to the memory that fell out of the Realm door.
- Taking a picture of a Night Thorn in the valley. Snap a picture with any Night Thorn in your valley to restore some sadness to the memory from the Realm door.

Complete the Emotional Rescue quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Next up, you need to fully finish the Emotional Rescue quest. There are quite a few tasks to get done in this one, including:
- Opening the Inside Out Realm. You should already have this one done.
- Find the missing console parts. Search around the Inside Out Realm to find the Curiosity Sliders near the orange couch, the Envy Button by the dark purple door, the Broken Caution Connectors hidden in the tunnel, Broken Caution Grips on the left side of the crafting station, and a Curiosity Adjuster by the ramp in the corner.
- Make the final console part. Combine the Broken Caution Connectors and the Broken Caution Grips to make the Broken Caution Sliders.
- Fix the console. Transfer all of the parts you found to repair the main console.
- Complete the flipper puzzles. Tackle the puzzles Joy gives you to progress.
- Acquire and wear the Mind Worker safety gear. Locate the Mind Worker safety gear from the storage unit tucked away behind the tunnel. Equip the hat and gloves to move on.
- Head to Long Term Memory. Activate the elevator sitting right in the middle of the room to head down to Long Term Memory and finish the Emotional Rescue quest.

Complete the Out of the Blue quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Your next task is to complete the Out of the Blue quest. This is where you first meet Sadness and help her bring some memories back up to Headquarters. To do so, you must:
- Complete flipper puzzles. Work through all flipper puzzles you come across to move walls out of the way and venture deeper into Long Term Memory.
- Locate Sadness. You'll find her in the very back left corner of the maze, right behind a flipper puzzle.
- Find four Piano Lesson Musical Memories. Search around the maze to locate four memories. These memories are marked with bright yellow music notes. Approach and interact with the notes to acquire the memories.

Complete the Dream On! quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Next, you must finish the Dream On! quest. This mission centers around you helping Joy and Sadness put on an epic Dream Production to inspire Riley. This is accomplished by:
- Visiting Joy’s Dream Productions space. Enter this special area through the sparkling spot on the right side of the console.
- Decorate the stage. Open Furniture Mode and grab three classy items from the small stage off to the left side. You need to pick up and place the globe, fireplace, and potted tree on the main stage.
- Wear elegant clothing. Equip any three items classified as elegant to wear.
- Place Joy and Sadness's home. Head back to the valley, place the house outline, and give Scrooge McDuck 10,000 Star Coins to build their home.
- Gather resources for the light stick. Obtain one Topaz, one Apple, one Seaweed, one Blue Falling Penstemon, one Carrot, and one Onyx. Once you have these items in your inventory, bring them to Joy to finish the Dream On! quest.

Unlock Joy in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Joy unlocks as a villager as soon as you place her and Sadness's home down during the Dream On! quest, so you should already have this step complete. After this, there's one more mission you need to get done to recruit Sadness.
Complete the Get Up and Glow quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The final mission you need to get done to unlock Sadness is the Get Up and Glow quest. For this one, you need to help Sadness find some more memories, which can be done by:
- Finding four Pop Concert Memories. Explore Long Term Memory to recover four memories hidden around the area. You're looking for the same music notes you previously found during the Out of the Blue quest.
- Decorating for Dream Productions. It's time to put on a new show, so grab six items that fit the pop star aesthetic and move them over to the main stage. The items you need to grab are two lights, the DJ table, two speakers, and the confetti cannon.
- Dressing up like a pop star. Equip any three items tagged as bold to progress.
- Giving Sadness the Go Go Light Stick. Gift her the item Joy told you to give her during the Dream On! quest.
- Starting the show. Inetarct with the microphone on the main stage to start the Dream Production, then chat with Sadness one last time to finish this quest.
Head back to the valley to officially have Sadness move into your village. She lives in the same house as Joy, so luckily, you don't have to pay Scrooge McDuck additional Star Coins to get her moved in.
