How to Unlock Friendships in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has staked its claim in the virtual karting world by distinguishing itself with a priority on rewarding skill, as opposed to the catch-up logic-powered racing of Mario Kart. That doesn’t mean that it’s not still a game designed with plenty of fun elements to enjoy, however, and one such option is the Friendship system, which allows you to modify the look of your game. If you’re enjoying your time with CrossWorlds and are interested in getting the most out of it, unlocking your Friendship system access should be on your to-do list.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Friendship system, including what it does and how to gain access for yourself:

What Is The Friendship System

The Friendship system is a way for players to unlock cosmetics for their characters in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, to make the game look the way you want as a player. Through the Friendship system, you spend Donpa tickets earned in your prior racing to build your friendship levels with the different racers in the game. By doing so, the player unlocks special perks which come in three main forms:

  • Titles: Unlocking title rewards for a character grants you a special title card that displays when your name appears in the game’s menus or out on the race course. Similar to other games using custom titles, basic titles offer simple modifications to the color or pattern of the title box, while more advanced title upgrades can change its shape and styling more significantly.
  • Character Stickers: One of the cool elements of CrossWorlds is the ability to attach sticker decals to your cars to customize their appearance. With your Friendship system progression, you can unlock more decals of your favorite characters to enhance your customization capability.
  • Skins: The final upgrade available through Friendship is the ability to unlock new skins for your favorite racers. This changes the way they appear on the course and can highlight to other players in online races that you’ve committed yourself to that character and unlocked their more advanced looks.

How To Unlock And Use The Friendship System

If you’re eager to try your hand at building Friendship levels with your favorite racers, then all you need to do is get racing. While it is a gated mode, it doesn’t require any purchase or advanced procedures. Instead, simply work your way through the game’s Grand Prix. After completing the first six Grand Prix, you will unlock the seventh special Grand Prix, the Egg Grand Prix. Beat that, watch the credits, and you’ve done it! A scene will roll, announcing you can now access the Friendship system menu.

Once unlocked, you can move to the Extras menu to access your Friendships and start spending your Donpa tickets on upgrades. While you can choose to spread your tickets around as you like, it can be helpful to prioritize your main racers to get them looking just right as quickly as possible before moving on to unlocking AI skins for racers you are less likely to use.

Unlocking Friendship rewards with characters is a great way to enhance how the game looks when playing with, or even against, your favorite racers. If you haven’t unlocked the Friendship system yet and see other racers rocking advanced looks, don’t worry. The changes provided by special unlocks are purely cosmetic and don’t mean you’ll be at an unfair disadvantage in the game, though it does mean they’ve put enough time to unlock Friendship rewards, though, so keep your eye on them on the course!
