How to unlock fishing in Neverness to Everness

There are plenty of open world activities to pursue in Neverness and Everness, but fishing is arguably one of the most peaceful ones. There’s nothing quite like taking in the sights on a bright sunny day, hearing the quiet rumblings of the water, while throwing a fishing rod.

However, fishing isn’t available from the get-go. To unlock it, you must reach Tycoon Level 3. For this, you’ll need to complete three quests. These are – Good Morning Hethereau, New Commission, and Legendary Driver

The ‘Good Morning Hethereau’ quest is available right after completing the episode, ‘Good Business, Better Treasure,’ which ends with the photo studio quest. It’s marked in purple under the Guide column of the Quests.

All three quests are pretty straightforward. However, for the Legendary Driver quest, you’ll need to purchase a car. The most basic one costs 50,000 Fons, so unless you are willing to part ways with that much money, we recommend waiting on this once.

Once you reach Tycoon level 3, you unlock the fishing quest, Re: Zero–Starting Life as a Fisher.

Once you pick the fishing quest, it will point you towards the nearest Fishing Spot in Caltrope Lake. You will get a basic fishing rod and some bait to get going. After you cast the rod, wait for a fish to catch the bait. It should only take a few seconds.

The trick to catching a fish in Neverness to Everness is to keep the yellow meter (the hook) in the moving green meter (of the fish). To do so, continuously move the hook left or right using LT&RT / L2&R2 / A&D. Fishes with more stamina have a smaller green meter, which makes it tougher to catch them. If you fail to sync the hook with the fish’s movement, the line will break, and the fish will escape.

Once you have caught a fish, you can sell it at Sea Angler’s fish market, which you can find in Hethereau’s hobbies menu. This will get you Scale Coin, NTE’s fishing currency.

Additionally, at the fish market, some fish are in demand every day and fetch more Scale Coin.  Every fishing spot attracts different fish, so visit one where you can find the fish you’re looking for. Certain baits are also better at increasing the chance of catching particular fish, so you’ll need to weigh your options properly.

You can buy better-quality fishing rods and baits with the Scale Coin you earn at the fishing spot itself and at Luna Bay shops around the city.
