The Cling Grip skill in Hollow Knight Silksong is an advanced ability to unlock that allows you to Wall Jump, and it makes up for the absence of the Mantis Claw from the first game.
Obtaining this skill isn't going to be easy, and there are plenty of steps to complete. You'll have to upgrade your cloak to float mid-air and ride the updraft, which lets you enter Greymoor. Completing the Lost Flea quest will make it easier for you to reach Bellhart (thanks to the Fleamaster), and from there, we approach Shellwood to find our pursuit of the Cling Grip.

How to reach the Bench room in Shellwood
The first task is to enter Shellwood and reach the bench room at the location to save your progress.
- From the first room, jump across the platforms floating on the water till you come across another platform hanging from a chain.
- You'll find a ledge that's incredibly hard to reach. Take the lower ledge on your left, dash, and jump instantly to grab the ledge on the right.
- From the higher ledge, travel upwards. Use your cloak's floating ability and dash. There are a few enemies that you can pogo jump on till you reach the entrance at the top left.
- Once you reach the top, go past the purple flowers, avoid the enemies (or kill them), and head down the platforms. You'll find the exit that leads you to the bench room (as shown by Hornet's position on the map in this screenshot).
You'll come across a ledge that's out of your access. Drop down, and keep heading to your left. You'll get the option of creating a paid bench (you should) and using the elevator to ascend to the room.
How to reach the Cling Grip in Hollow Knight: Silksong
From here, we will be travelling to the east of Shellwood. To do that, drop down from the bench room and keep travelling to your left till you come across this location on the map. You'll find that one path is heading to the left, while the other is leading upwards; take the latter.
- As you keep heading upwards, the goal is to get as high as possible, and head towards your right.
- On the way, you'll find a few weak enemies, but it's the terrain that you should be more careful about.
- You'll have to jump on the white flowers, but be careful not to fall as there are thorns across major areas of the way. You can easily dodge the enemies if required.
- The path is pretty linear as there are no multiple paths along the way. You reach as high as possible, travel on the map, and keep heading to the east.
- The pattern follows until you reach a ledge with a hanging elevator (different from the first one). Go to the next room, follow east till you reach the end. Use the platforms you find to go top, and now, we go left.
- The next room will have the Sister Splinter boss waiting for us. This boss is unavoidable, and you'll have to dispatch it efficiently.
After defeating Sister Splinter, the rest of the path is easy.
- Go left and drop down. Keep going left till you hit the wall, and now travel up. The general movement will be towards the left till you reach a room with the lake. Go past it, finish the enemies you come across, as the path then turns right.
- Use the white flowers to jump between two massive ledges as you reach the final room. This is where you find the idol and get the Wall Climb, aka Cling Grip, in Hollow Knight Silksong.
