How to unlock and use Iron Commander in Destiny Rising

Every gacha game has some form of expeditions where you send your characters to passively obtain loot. In Destiny: Rising, this feature comes in the form of Iron Commander, where you can get loot from most core activities without doing a thing.

Here’s everything you need to know about Iron Commander in Destiny: Rising, and whether it’s worth using.

Iron Commander unlocks around the fifth Chapter. Follow the main story and the Handbook objectives to unlock it alongside other core features. After completing the campaign and reaching Acclaim, you can unlock bonuses for Iron Commander. Those include additional uses per day and shortened completion times.

Iron Commander has a dedicated node next to Adventure in the activity menu. To dispatch a fireteam, you need an Ops Authorization token. Before Acclaim bonuses, you can buy one per day for 20 Pinnacle Energy in the top right corner.

With the Ops Authorization token, select an activity you want to get rewards for. You must have already cleared the activity normally before doing it through Iron Commander, though. Choose three characters (you’ll still be able to use them) and send them out.

There are three reward tiers for any Iron Commander op. To reach higher tiers, you must meet the fireteam’s cumulative Power requirements. For example, Strikes on Heroic difficulty require a total Power of 117,400 to get the best rewards.

At the Abundant reward tier, completing activities through Iron Commander offers slightly better rewards. With the Reward Level seven, the Abundant reward tier in Iron Commander has a chance to drop up to two Exotic weapons from the Heroic Strike, as opposed to one by doing it normally. There’s also a chance to get up to two additional Mythic weapons and somewhat more of the other rewards. The base drop rates are still the same, but you might strike gold and get more loot for the same amount of Pinnacle Energy spent.
