How to Unlock and Activate Takeover in NBA 2K26

Your performance during a given MyCareer match in NBA 2K26 can be amplified by a few different factors. However, to really increase your efficiency, you’ll want to activate Takeover as quickly as possible. The Takeover feature boosts your pertinent skills during a match, making it much easier to score, pass, defend, and boost your overall grade. While it’s always going to be one of your goals to activate Takeover in MyCareer, many players wonder how they can actually do that.

Luckily for anyone still wondering how Takeover works, it’s not a difficult feature to understand at all. There is a little nuance with the Takeover feature in 2K26 that you need to dive a little deeper into, though. We’ll explain everything you need to know about activating and using the Takeover feature in MyCareer in the guide below.

How To Enter Takeover Mode In NBA 2K26

When a MyCareer game begins in 2K26, you can immediately start building towards Takeover mode. Your progress towards Takeover mode is tracked by the meter at the top-right corner of the screen when a game is happening. The Takeover meter is directly next to the box with your current grade inside of it.

As a game progresses, you’ll notice that the Takeover meter will fill depending on how your player is performing. If you’re playing well, the meter fills up faster, while playing inefficiently and not pushing your grade further results in the meter staying stagnant for large portions of the game.

Takeover mode is activated once you completely fill the meter from left to right. This involves surpassing five levels of the meter, which you can track by looking at the meter itself. Once you’ve reached five levels and filled the meter up, Takeover mode is activated automatically. There’s no specific button you have to press to activate the feature; your player simply gains all of the benefits associated with Takeover once you fill up the meter. When Takeover mode is activated, though, you’ll see flames appear on the meter, indicating it’s currently active.

Generally, you’ll need to reach a “B+” or an “A” in your current grade before you enter Takeover mode. Of course, if you’re playing inconsistently, then the grade will differ drastically from game to game. It’s also worth mentioning that your Takeover meter doesn’t only have to go up. It can go down and lose you progress towards filling up if you play poorly for a stretch of time.

So, in general, it’s important to remember that just because you’re close to an “A” performance or it’s been a certain amount of time, Takeover mode isn’t guaranteed to activate at the same time every game in MyCareer.

How To Unlock Custom Takeovers In NBA 2K26

Custom Takeovers are a way to customize how your Takeover mode affects your player during a MyCareer game in 2K26. When you customize and activate a custom Takeover, you get to choose what attributes are boosted and which ability is activated when the mode is used during a game.

To unlock custom Takeovers, you first need to unlock all 44 regular Takeovers in 2K26. This process occurs slowly throughout the course of your MyCareer journey. It’s a true grind, as you have to unlock each Takeover one by one through leveling and completing objectives.

However, once all 44 are unlocked, you then need to head into a MyCareer game and activate Takeover mode one final time. This unlocks custom Takeovers, which you can customize through the “Progression” menu in MyCareer (it’s in the “Takeover” section). You have access to four separate custom Takeover loadouts in 2K26, which you can customize with different boosted attributes and abilities. You’ll then choose one of the loadouts to equip, and the next time Takeover mode is activated in a game, that custom Takeover loadout will be the one that you use.

There are no real restrictions with custom Takeovers, so feel free to test out a variety of builds with your MyPlayer to see what attribute and ability combination works best for you. It should also be noted that your custom Takeovers are shared between every MyPlayer you create, so once you unlock them for one player, they are unlocked for every other player on your account. This allows even more freedom, as you can pick and choose your Takeover loadout immediately on a second, third, and fourth MyPlayer in 2K26.

That’s all we have on how to activate Takeover mode and use custom Takeovers in NBA 2K26.
