How to travel for free on the tram during Manchester Pride

It will be another special August bank holiday in Manchester as this weekend as Pride returns.

The four-day event will see thousands of Mancunians, as well as visitors from afar, head to the city centre to show their support and celebrate the LGBT+ community.

The city is putting on a whole host of events from Friday until Monday, with live music from world-renowned artists, a huge parade, a Gay Village Party and smaller family-friendly activities.

With all this happening you can expect the city to be extra congested this weekend and there will also be a number of road closures and diversions in place.

Using public transport is encouraged to get around during the long weekend, and what's even better, is that there's two ways of getting around the city for free.

Free Metroshuttle

The free shuttle buses pick up outside Manchester Piccadilly Station and travel to key areas including Oxford Road, Deansgate , Portland Street and Spinningfields.

The Metroshuttle is fully accessible with step-free access to pavements.

Travel on the tram for free

Manchester Pride tickets are exchanged for Pledge Bands at the event's ticket exchange spots.

Customers with these bands can travel for free between Metrolink Zone 1 stops from Friday, August 23 to Monday, August 26.

Transport for Greater Manchester has warned passengers of tram services being held for short periods of time as the Pride Parade crosses the Metrolink tracks at St Peter's Square.

The nearest Metrolink stops to the Parade are St. Peter’s Square, Deansgate Castlefield, Piccadilly Gardens and Piccadilly.
